The Sturgis key clubbers contributed to this holiday cheer by holding crafts and face painting. The Sturgis art room quickly filled up with excited children and people wanting to participate in the holiday activities. The key clubbers quickly became busy running around and working all the fun activities. In addition to the face painting, some of the crafts that we assisted visitors with were pipe cleaner candy canes, Christmas tree ornaments, customized Christmas trees and gingerbread men, and decorating Santa.
On the other side of Main street, the Sturgis Jammers performed several Christmas songs for the Stroll. Audiences quickly formed around the students as they performed classic holiday songs such as Frosty the Snowman, Carol of the Bells, White Christmas, and more! As the day went on, the Jammers continued to play excellently, even as the temperature continued to drop.
Even though the weather outside was frightful, the smiles that were created that day were so delightful. The joy that was created that day by both the Key clubbers and the Jammers was infinite. Thank you to everyone that participated in the holiday stroll and contributed to the holiday spirit. Have a great day!
Hockey Club on the Horizon for Sturgis Campuses!
The beginning of the hockey club “came about from a few really dedicated students, something I’m finding is really common at Sturgis” explained Mrs. Singh, the advisor of the club. “The kids are inspired and motivated to make a change, and so they go out and do it!”
The club plans to meet Mondays and Fridays before school at the H.Y.C.C. and skate. Students of all different skill levels are welcome to join the club, no matter how much prior experience they have playing hockey. Between 20-25 students are expected to participate.
While the club will only include students from Sturgis East and West to begin with, Mrs. Singh and others hope that they will soon be able to compete against other schools.
Also, as the club takes off, any parents interested in helping out are encouraged to contact Mrs. Singh. “Since hockey is a fast paced contact sport, the more adults around the better. If they could come to the Monday and Friday practices (after being CPR/First Aid certified of course) and be an extra set of eyes, I would be eternally grateful.”
The future is bright for the Hockey Club at Sturgis East and West! Our school has already seen how the determination of a few students can transform a simple idea into a phenomenon! “This has been a really fun experience”, she concluded. “Students at Sturgis set their sights on something and make it happen. It's how the Lacrosse team, the Field Hockey team, and the Cross Country teams all started, so I think we'll be able to do the same for Ice Hockey! I'm really happy to be a part of it and to be able to watch this all happen.”
The entire Sturgis StormWatch staff would like to wish the Hockey Club the best of luck as they begin their thrilling and unprecedented journey!
