Business Club teaches essential skills for students looking to pursue business-related careers and provides valuable experience in the business field. “I decided our club would be a combination of useful tips and tools that I have come across over the years as well as a club that could take on realistic business projects to provide first-hand experience,” Mr. DeTora explains. Each week, members focus on different topics ranging from resumes to interview skills to even financial discussions.
Some of the most valuable lessons of Business Club are taught through real-world experiences as members sell apparel, school stickers, and other school paraphernalia to the Sturgis community. “We get to apply business techniques in the real world as we communicate with the suppliers and then sell the shirts to students, parents, and teachers,” senior Sawyer Gibbons remarks, “It definitely helps me to understand the world of business, and it even helps me to be a more educated consumer as well.”
At the end of the year, the club will provide two business scholarships to members who submit an essay for consideration. “I am very proud of what the club has accomplished this first half of the year and look forward to hearing ideas for the next venture,” Mr. DeTora praises.
Overall, this club applies knowledge acquired in the SL and HL Business classes to real world situations such as planning events and managing finances. Interested in learning more? Business club meets every Wednesday during lunch in Room 204! Future entrepreneurs, as well as anyone with good ideas to share for a successful event, are always welcome!
