Coach Aucion has plenty of young talent this year; Bryson Uhlman, William Furtado, Matthew Tracy, and Jacob Kreitzer are all making their varsity debuts this season. These newcomers have already gained valuable game experience against very tough competition, including undefeated teams Saint John Paul II and Nantucket.
Everybody knows that Sturgis East never goes down without a fight, and that was manifest to any of the fans who witnessed their nail biter against Saint John Paul II. After trailing by six points at the half, Sturgis East fought tooth and nail to bring the game back to a one score game. Unfortunately, they were not able to overcome the relentless SJP defense, but the teamwork and passion seen from Sturgis East was remarkable. After a slow 1-2 start, Sturgis has been on a tear, winning its past two games by an average of ten points. I am certainly excited for the rematch against SJP on January 17!
With great leadership, young talent, and a fiery passion to be the best they can be, the Storm is a force to be reckoned with this basketball season. Everyone is working hard to make sure that Sturgis makes the playoffs for the second year in a row, and if the team’s momentum continues all of those 6 am practices and late nights might just pay off. Captain Sawyer Gibbons is very encouraged by what he has seen this season, and he has faith in the team’s “skill, talent, and heart” to carry the team to a “deep playoff run."
Make sure you cheer on the Storm as they match up agaist Sturgis West on Thursday, December 22, at 7:00 p.m. in the Hyannis Youth and Community Center!
