Do you think that the sophomores enjoyed Spirit Week? Did you?
The majority of the sophomores appreciated Spirit Week because it was a fun and friendly competition. Sophomores had a wonderful time decorating the halls, bouncing red balls and red balloons, and cheering our phrase “Let’s go sophomores!” throughout the school. As for myself, when I wasn’t chanting, dancing or participating in the games, I was cheering on my friends and having a great time watching them.
What day of Spirit Week was your favorite and why?
Color Day was definitely my favorite day. We got to show our class pride by decorating the sophomore hallway as well as ourselves with our class color “red” and our class theme “fire.” Luckily, no one in our grade had enough “school spirit” to actually start a fire in our hallway. We got to go to the Hyannis Green and participate in activities such as shoe relay races, tug o’ war, and dances to great music.
This year we showed a fair amount of school spirit, especially compared to last year. However, we still can improve by having more people from our grade participate. Although we didn’t come in last place, next year we should aim for first or second. Every year we should try to improve more and more.
How do you think we can improve next year?
Generally, we need to have more students participating each and every day. That way, we will have a head start going into Color Day. Also, we should pre-create some teams to compete in the Color Wars. Finally, we should get more people to donate lots and lots of pennies to the Penny Wars so that we can give ourselves more points.
What do you think Spirit Week truly means in terms of Sturgis?
Spirit Week brings all the classes together in a competitive way. Students join together to have fun and compete together with their peers. Spirit Week is also a way to show a great amount of spirit towards the school and the students. Normally during the school year you might get called to the office for painting your physical body in your class color, but Color Day allows students to express their pride in their class and their school.
Spirit Week was definitely well liked, not only the sophomores but by all students and faculty at Sturgis. Sturgis isn’t just focused on academics. Rather, we are all devoted to enjoying the whole high school experience and to showing school spirit throughout the year. We are devoted to helping each other and working together in one environment. During Spirit Week, we don’t have a winner and a loser. It doesn’t matter what place your grade comes in. As long as you showed school spirit with your classmates and had a memorable time, you succeeded in Spirit Week. Thank you to everyone who participated, and we are all glad that Spirit Week was successful yet again!
