Futsal, a fast paced game, is a variation of the sport of soccer; but it is played on a smaller, primarily indoor, surface. The sport aids in improving players’ individual skills by encouraging tricks, flicks, and fancy footwork. Five players take the field at a time for each side, including the goalie. A smaller, weighted ball is used instead of the normal size 5 soccer ball; and special futsal shoes are required, as cleats do not work on the hard court.
According to their website, Cape Cod Futsal is a league aiming “to provide an environment for players of all levels and ages to play and learn the game of futsal.” Games are forty total minutes (twenty minute halves) of continual action and on-the-fly subbing. They are held Saturday evenings at Cape Cod Community College in the gym, with a fun, music-filled environment. Opponents for Sturgis include Bourne, Cape Cod Futsal Club, and the International Soccer Club. Fans and support are welcome, and Go Storm!
