Girls Soccer - This season the girls team gained 17 freshmen, who brought us a lot of new talent. Since the beginning, the team has gotten along really well and played well after just a couple weeks of practice. Every day there is a positive energy on and off the field, and an overall optimistic outlook on the season ahead of us. At practices, we are working hard together to do well this season, which feels like it's going to be a great one! Go Storm! (Courtesy of Lindsy Hardy)
The girls soccer team will play Rising Tide away at 4:00 on Friday, September 30.
Field Hockey- The field hockey team is off to a great start! Although they have a new coach and lost ten seniors last year, the field hockey team is optimistic about this season. The goal this fall is to focus on playing well as a team rather than fixating on the scoreboard. Hopefully this mentality will help a team with only three upperclassmen to learn a lot, communicate well, and beat West for the second year in a row! Go Storm! (Courtesy of Sophie Gibson)
The girls field hockey team will face Nantucket at Simpkins Field at 4:30 on Monday, September 26.
Girls Volleyball -After making it far into the state tournament last year, Sturgis East Girls Volleyball, led by its talented captains Delaney Wood and Ariana Jackson, is eager for another successful season. Despite having lost five starters, the team gained a number of strong and talented players this year who will no doubt prove to be valuable additions. Driven by their competitive attitude, they endeavor to win the Cape and Islands League title as well as once again advance far into states, and in doing so, become a stronger and more united team. Cross Country - The Sturgis East Boys and Girls Cross Country teams, coached by Mike Beckner, are excited for a fantastic season after graduating only one runner since last fall. The girls team, led by a strong group of six seniors, is looking to defend their 2015 Cape and Islands League Championship; and the boys are hoping to add a title to their repertoire after finishing 2nd the past three years. Sturgis Cross Country runs against in-league and out-of-league schools across the Cape and also competes in several large invitational meets, including yearly favorite Bob McIntyre Twilight Meet at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds. If you spot the Cross Country team doing burpees on the village green or running around Hyannis this fall, know that they are training hard for an incredible season! (Courtesy of Caroline Sullivan)
Golf - After losing four seniors, this year’s golf team is a combination of new and experienced players. Under the coaching of Mike Serijan, the team hopes to build on its successful season of last year when the team made it to South Sectionals. Returning varsity players include Andrew Williams and tri-captains Emily Rodricks, Vinny Collucci, and Joey Colesano. The varsity team is happy to welcome Nolan Bourgeois, Liam Campbell, and Tristan Gordon, who won his first match against Monomoy. The golf team will be playing in 14 matches this year, including newcomers Monomoy and Rising Tide in the Cape and Islands league.
